COFFEE BASICS

What kind of coffee does Erava roast?

Erava is a specialty coffee roaster based in Rome. We roast a curated range of coffees including year round espresso blends and rotating single origins, all selected for exceptional flavor and regenerative farming outcomes.

Specialty coffee refers to coffee evaluated at a high quality level, typically based on professional sensory standards. At Erava, specialty means coffees chosen for clarity, sweetness, balance, and distinctive origin character.

Both. We roast coffees designed to perform beautifully as espresso and as filter. Some coffees are more comfort driven and classic, others are brighter and more expressive depending on origin and processing.

Blends combine coffees to achieve a consistent flavor profile year round, especially for espresso. Single origins come from a specific region or producer and rotate seasonally, offering more distinctive character and complexity.

REGENERATIVE SOURCING

What does “regenerative” mean at Erava?

For Erava, regenerative refers to farms that focus on outcome driven land health, improving soil biology, biodiversity, and long term resilience. We look beyond input checklists and prioritize farms working toward measurable improvements in ecosystem function.

Not always. Organic certification can be a meaningful baseline, but it does not automatically guarantee improved soil function or biodiversity outcomes. Regeneration is about building systems that get stronger over time and are verified through practice, transparency, and measurable results where possible.

We prioritize transparency, long term relationships, and credible sourcing partners. We also build traceability into each coffee through farm level documentation and verification signals where available.

TASTE AND ROAST PROFILE

What does Erava coffee taste like?

Our coffees are chosen for clean sweetness, balance, and a calm finish. Our espresso offerings are structured and smooth, and our single origins explore brightness and complexity while staying approachable and refined.

We roast medium and comfort driven overall, with range. Some coffees lean more traditional for espresso with lower acidity and smooth sweetness, while others, especially certain single origins, highlight more clarity and vibrant fruit.

Start with our more classic espresso styles and Brazil based offerings, they tend to be smoother and lower in perceived acidity. If you want recommendations, email us and we will help you choose based on your brew method and taste preferences.

FRESHNESS AND STORAGE

How fresh is your coffee when it ships?

We roast in small batches and ship as fresh as possible. Most coffees taste best after a short rest period, especially espresso, and then stay at peak quality for weeks when stored properly.

Keep coffee sealed, cool, and dry, away from heat and sunlight. We recommend keeping it in the original bag with the valve, or in an airtight container.

Freezing can work well if done correctly, especially for preserving limited releases. If you freeze coffee, keep it airtight, portioned, and avoid repeated opening and closing of the container.
